Saturday, November 17, 2018:   The Patient Is Stable But Still Critical
The political ads have stopped and vote tabulation is winding down on this most recent election. Now that the dust has settled, it appears that America has been pulled back from the brink of Fascism. Maybe this is what the founding fathers envisioned when they wrote the constitution and created our three branches of government.

For now we have at least slowed Republican tyranny. That being said, our democracy is still critical. The short Republican rein of terror has wreaked untold damage to our reputation, our economy, and our environment while at the same time making the rich and corporations wealthier and more powerful.

So there is still work to do and battles to be fought. The Republicans may have had a set back with the loss of control of the House of Representatives, but they are far from down. After they get done licking their wounds (which takes about a week), they will be back in the fight with more money and move commitment than ever and the idiot in the oval office will continue to do his part by distracting the public from the real agenda of the Party.

The Democrats must unite with a strategy backed by tactics designed to continue the battle for our democracy. The Republicans have been at this for 20 years and they have executed well. It is going to take many years before this battle will reach a point where the average American can have confidence that our country will again be of the people, by the people, and for the people.

My hope is that this election will have opened the eyes of more Americans to the evil that has infested our political system. Republican gerrymandering, voter suppression, and campaigns based on outright lies came into full view over the last few weeks. While there will always be people who support these tactics, I pray that reasonable people will see that the politics of the Republican party run counter to the principles on which our country was founded. First and foremost, I hope that voter apathy will continue to wane and people will take the time to research and understand the issues and how their future vote will really impact them and the generations to come.
