Saturday, October 1, 2022:  So What Exactly is the MAGA Electorate Voting For?

I am not sure what it takes to get the MAGA folks to wake up and smell the proverbial coffee. They support a party that denies climate change while large swaths of MAGA America are destroyed by extreme weather events. Will they wake up when the West runs out of water or Florida is one big swamp? Probably not.

So lets look at the Republican Party platform. Maybe we can find a reason for the MAGA support. These quotes are straight from the Republican Party web site.

"Republicans believe in liberty, economic prosperity, preserving American values and traditions, and restoring the American dream for every citizen of this great nation. As a party, we support policies that seek to achieve those goals."

They are for "Liberty" unless you are a woman, a minority, poor, an immigrant, or a person of color and "Economic Prosperity" is for the 1% who fund their campaigns with dark money. To Republicans "American values" is a euphemism for white, Christian, and male. The "American dream" is code for "make the rich even richer." And yes, they do support policies that seek these goals.

"Our platform is centered on stimulating economic growth for all Americans, protecting constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms, ensuring the integrity of our elections, and maintaining our national security. We are working to preserve America's greatness for our children and grandchildren."

"Stimulating growth for all Americans" is their "trickle down economics" which is a joke. They give corporate America tax breaks that are used to buy back their stock which in turn drives up the value of their executives stock options and when they give the rich tax breaks the rich simply get richer. They are for "Protecting constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms" as long as they protect white men with guns. Otherwise, forget it. "Election integrity" means making sure Republicans are elected even if the majority of American's vote democratic. "National security" means sending your hard earned tax dollars to the military-industrial complex. And yes they are "working to preserve America's greatness for their "white, upper-class" children and grandchildren.

"The Republican Party's legacy -- we were originally founded in 1854 for the purpose of ending slavery -- compels us to patriotically defend America's values. As the left attempts to destroy what makes America great, the Republican Party is standing in the breach to defend our nation and way of life."

The party was founded "for the purpose of ending slavery", but they are now working hard to insure that the majority of Americans are nothing more than indentured servants cobbled by low pay, high prices, unaffordable housing, and student debt.

But really - what HAS the Republican party done for the MAGA types during the last two Republican led administrations? Nothing but make their collective lives worse. MAGA voters are like frogs in water with their elected Republican Party representatives slowly turning up the heat.
