Saturday, September 7, 2024: Society's Cancer
There is one truth that pervades human society and it is that both good and evil exist.
Evil is that which is profoundly immoral and wicked. It is toxic to the degree that it takes significant amount of good to offset the smallest amount of evil.
In the real world, evil is society's cancer. Unfortunately, unlike cancer, evil is always present human kind. It resides in the darkest recesses of society waiting for an opportunity to openly spread with the goal being absolute command and control. Once it takes hold, it spreads unless it is contained.
Evil appeals to human kind's most basic instincts. Evil will corrupt a person's values. It uses our fears and learned prejudices to infect our thoughts and control our actions.
At this point in our history, evil presents a clear and present danger. It has infected large segments of human society. It commands a large following and it is poised to inflict a level of pain and suffering on humankind not seen in the annals of history.
Evil is no longer hiding in the shadows. No, it is right there in the open and the list of its acolytes is long and pervasive. It starts with visible manifestations like Trump, Vance, Musk, and Putin but includes a whole bevy of individuals who work behind the scenes. It also feeds on the support of those who aren't actors but rather allow evil to exist in the open. They are the racists, misogynists, evangelical nationalists, ant-abortion types, Trump rally attendees, and those who live in their alternate reality and choose to ignore of the facts.
If history teaches us anything, it is that evil does not prevail in the end. At its core is an arrogance that will drive it back into society's darkest corner. Unfortunately, before that time is reached, society will have paid an enormous price.
This coming election is our last chance to stop the spread of evil and prevent the pain and agony it will inflict. If we don't, I can assure you that no one will be left unscathed by the havoc that will follow.
It pains me to conclude with this statement, but a vote for a Republican at any level in our American political system is a vote for evil.
